Likewise the VCDS is almost the analog of original dealer equipments, but it is a lot cheaper. The equipment supports all the diagnostic functions as the dealer equipments VAG-1551, VAG-1552, VASS-5052, VASS-5051 (reading and clearig of codes DTC, real time data reading, actuator tests, basic settings, adaptation, coding and other functions). It allows work with all systems with auto diagnostic functions (for VW-Audi it is more than 70 systems).

First, many people have run VCDS on a MAC using a dual boot setup or a virtual machine setup running Windows on their Mac. I have both a HEX+CAN interface cable and a HEX-NET interface so I have some perspective. This might be a reason to consider the cheap Windows computer as an option. I would much prefer to drop a cheap Windows netbook onto the floor than to accidentally knock an expensive MAC to the ground.

Speaking of devices, are you planning to use your MacBook Pro with this or a smart phone, or what? The reason I ask is that I am not sure that I would want to take an expensive MacBook Pro out into the garage when working on my car. This can be inconvenient with some devices. This means that it must be in infrastructure mode (hooked to an existing wi-fi network with an internet connection) or the device you are using to communicate with it (computer, laptop, smart phone, etc.) must be able to act as a wi-fi "hot-spot" to provide internet (cloud) access for the HEX-NET.
However some of the more advanced functions like coding and adaptations do require an internet (cloud) connection. As mentioned above, it can also work as a wireless connection to the latest versions of the regular VCDS programģ) The VCDS-Mobile app will do some functions (like reading and clearing fault codes) without an internet connection. This app can be accessed (run) from any device with wi-fi and a web browser like a computer, tablet, or smart phone. However, in AP mode the HEX-NET also makes a great wireless interface for the VCDS program on a Windows computer with no restrictions.Ģ) A HEX-NET includes the built-in VCDS-Mobile app and a web server. In AP mode it does not have internet access so VCDS-Mobile's functions are somewhat limited (see 3 below). It can also function in AP (Access Point) mode where it creates its own network that you can connect to. Infrastructure mode where it is connected to an existing network (home wi-fi, or business wi-fi) with internet connectivity. Since, with an Apple device, you will probably be using the built-in VCDS-Mobile app rather than the VCDS Windows program you should understand a few things.ġ) A HEX-NET can function is 2 modes. My guess (and it is just that - I don't work for Ross-Tech) is that the official beta period will end fairly soon. The updates used to come almost weekly and now they are much more infrequent. They pretty much have all the kinks worked out by now.
